These opportunities give young people a chance to develop interest, knowledge and skills in virtually any art form that is off interest to them. there is such a wide range of art forms that there will be something for everyone.
Enjoy and Appreciate & Showcasing Young Peoples Work
CultureShock not only offers the chance to take part in various workshops but also gives young people the opportunity to witness a huge range of performances and arts displays. Again there is something for everyone, CultureShock hosts performances in:
Music – Bands, Solo Acts, Acoustic, Rap, DJing, Orchestras, Jazz Bands etc. Theatre – Street Theatre, Traditional Style, Invisible Theatre, Circus etc Dance – Street Dance, Contemporary Dance, Break Dance, Salsa etc. Art – Art Displays and Exhibitions, Photography etc. Digital Arts – Vjing, Film etc
As well as having the opportunity to witness these performances, young people also have the chance to showcase their own work throughout the each of these art forms. The key aim for CultureShock is to offer young people the opportunity to showcase their own arts achievements and skills.
Leadership/Apprenticeship
Each year CultureShock has a young people steering group, these young people work with Connecting Youth Culture to plan and run certain elements of the CultureShock event. For example this year we have a group of about 10 young people who are organising and curating a zone of the CultureShock site. This offers the young people huge opportunities for leadership.
Meeting Arts Professional
Throughout the three day programme CultureShock has a number of arts professionals on site working with young people. There are plenty of opportunities for young people to work with and talk to these professionals.
Volunteering/ Work Placements
Each year CultureShock offers volunteering opportunities to young people, this year we are launching a much more substantial programme of volunteering. Young people will have the opportunity to apply to volunteer over a number of areas at the event. For example there are opportunities to support workshops as artist assistants or to support the technical team with sound engineering and stage management.
Each year we also take on young people for work experience, this provides them with a real overview of the services Connecting Youth Culture provide.
